Rosemary’s chocolate chip cake

The best combination of chocolate chip cookies and cake you could imagine. Super easy to toss everything together and bake. The hard part is trying not to eat it all at once.

This recipe has been passed along from one of my grandmother’s friends to my mom and grandma down to me. My mom first had it having tea with my grandma and her friends on a front porch one summer and I recently made it for my mom’s playgroup. I loved the symmetry of making it for another group of women in the next generation. I’m not always a big baker but this one is forgiving and easy!

Recipe

1/2 cup butter at room temperature (if possible. When I forget it still works a bit cold)
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup plain yogurt
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 F. Mix together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and mix. Add remaining dry ingredients and yogurt and mix. Stir in chocolate chips. Bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick or knife inserted comes out clean (check at 35). Cut and serve.

Notes: Tastes amazing warm. But also tastes good out of the fridge and  it freezes well so you can easily make it ahead of time.
