simple smoothies

This has been the best breakfast hack for me. I’ve never been able to jump on the overnight oats bandwagon. Chia pudding is definitely not my thing. But these smoothies have been gamechangers.

The secret breakfast hack: prepackage your smoothie ingredients in serving size portions in your freeze. (I use and reuse ziplocks). When you want to make your smoothie grab a package. Dump it in the blender. Add wet ingredients. Go! Promise you’ll try this before you write it off. I ignored this advice too many times and it actually makes a big difference for me. My two favourite smoothies are below.

Recipe

Two handfuls chopped cantaloupe (I split one cantaloupe across 8 smoothies)
2 handfuls kale
1 handful strawberries (green smoothie) OR 1 handful blueberries (purple smoothie)
1/2 cup vanilla kefir milk
2 heaping spoons of vanilla Greek yogurt
1 tbsp chia seeds

Put fruit and kale in a ziplock and freeze. When you’re ready to make the smoothie add to blender with milk and yogurt. Blend then add the chia seeds right at the end. Depending how thick it is I sometimes add a splash of water. I used to add hemp hearts too but I found they were giving it a bit of a chalky taste. I reuse the ziplocks so it’s not that much waste. I just put them back in my freezer once I use them and then pull them all out to refill when I’m low on smoothies.
